NEW YORK, Oct 22 (Reuters) - U.S. stocks closed higher on Thursday on a batch of strong earnings from various sector bellwethers, with financial and consumer stocks leading the way.
Based on the latest available data, the Dow Jones industrial average rose 131.95 points, or 1.33 percent, to end unofficially at 10,081.31. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 11.51 points, or 1.06 percent, to finish unofficially at 1,092.91.
