Investing.com -- Japan Airlines Co Ltd (TYO:9201) experienced flight cancellations and delays on Thursday following a cyberattack that disrupted its network, the company announced.

Over 60 flights, including 11 international routes, were delayed by at least 30 minutes as of 7 a.m. GMT. Additionally, two domestic flights were canceled, the airline reported.

The disruption stemmed from issues with network equipment connecting internal and external systems. By the afternoon, Japan Airlines said it had identified the problem and restored its systems.

The carrier explained that the network disruption was caused by an influx of data but confirmed there was no breach of customer information or damage from malware.

Flight operations were not compromised, and safety was not affected, the airline emphasized.

Japan Airlines resumed ticket sales for flights departing Thursday after briefly suspending bookings earlier in the day. A spokesperson noted that some airport systems used for reservations and baggage check-in had been impacted.

Japan Airlines shares dropped over 2% during Tokyo trading but recovered some losses, ending the session down 0.24%.

ANA Holdings Inc (TYO:9202), Japan's other major airline, stated that its systems showed no signs of being affected by any cyberattack, Reuters reported.

Earlier this week, American Airlines Group (NASDAQ:AAL) faced significant disruptions, briefly grounding all flights for an hour on Christmas Eve due to a network hardware technical issue, affecting travel for thousands of passengers.
