MILAN, Jan 18 (Reuters) - Italy's market watchdog has asked market participants for opinions on executive pay packages as it moves to boost transparency before the next round of company shareholder meetings.
Market regulator Consob said on Tuesday it would be taking steps after the consultation period which would be transitional ahead of fuller regulation to be drawn up in 2011 to implement European recommendations.
"In particular, the (transitional) measures ... aim at promoting better information for the public on severance pay and pay packages," it said in a document published on its website.
The three-week consultation period will also include information that companies provide shareholders on appointments of top executives and board self-assessments. (Reporting by Danilo Masoni)
