MILAN, Sept 9 (Reuters) - Turnover on sports betting in Italy fell 17 percent in August year-on-year to 221 million euros ($280 million), having been affected by the timing of the soccer calendar, gaming regulator AAMS said on Thursday.
Matches started at least a week later than in 2009 season, AAMS said. Year-to-date sports bets are up 11.9 percent after strong rises in June and July because of the World Cup.
Payouts fell to 69 percent in August from 70 percent in July, the regulator said.
SNAI SpA has a market share of more than 30 percent, followed by Lottomatica SpA with 20 percent, and unlisted Sisal at 10 percent. (Writing by Nigel Tutt; Editing by Dan Lalor) ($1 = 0.7871 euro)
