HONG KONG, Jan 12 (Reuters) - Hong Kong stocks extended gains on Wednesday propelled by a rally in index heavyweight HSBC Holdings Plc <0005.HK), which helped the benchmark breach near-term resistance on good volume.
The Hang Seng Index <.HSI> edned up 1.54 percent at 24,125.61, bringing its weekly gain to 4.7 percent. The index has recovered nearly two-thirds of its losses since early November when it fell after hitting a 2-½ year high.
