HONG KONG, Jan 26 (Reuters) - Hong Kong shares staged a mild recovery on Wednesday, rising for the first time in five sessions, although HSBC weighed and flagging turnover suggested a lack of conviction among market players.
The Hang Seng Index <.HSI> ended up 0.23 percent at 23,843.24, with index heavyweight HSBC Holdings Plc <0005.HK> the biggest drag after an unexpected contraction in Britain's economy raised worries about growth for the nation's largest lender.
