- The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court is expected to hear arguments today over Exxon Mobil’s (XOM -0.2%) request to overturn a lower court ruling that the company must turn over documents to the state's attorney general as part of an investigation into whether it misled investors and consumers about its knowledge of climate change.
- AG Maura Healey’s office, together with New York AG Eric Schneiderman, says company documents from the 1970s and 1980s suggested XOM failed to disclose what it knew and engaged in a campaign to sow doubts about the science of climate change; XOM says the documents were not inconsistent with its public positions.
- After Healey issued a civil investigative demand for documents in April 2016, XOM filed a lawsuit challenging the request and another case in federal court challenging her and Schneiderman’s investigations.
