(NYSE:Citi) was forecast to report EPS of $1.12 on revenues of $17.1 bn.
Citi's Q4 2015 EPS was $1.02 on revenues of $18.5 bn.
Revenues fell in the absence of net gains from asset sales.
Fourth quarter earnings were boosted by fixed-income and equity trading.
"We had a strong finish to 2016, bringing momentum into this year," CEO Michael Corbat said.
