PARIS, March 28 (Reuters) - French daily Le Monde said on Monday that Carrefour, the world's No. 2 retailer, is taking no action against a senior executive who came under scrutiny over his role at his previous employer.
Reuters reported on Friday that Carrefour Chief Commercial Officer Jose Carlos Gonzalez-Hurtado had only served as vice president of Procter & Gamble unit Braun even though the retailer had described him as the unit's former head.
Carrefour did not return repeated calls from Reuters on Friday and Monday seeking comment.
Carrefour described the discrepancy as a "regrettable misunderstanding," Le Monde reported, without attributing the words to a particular person at the retailer.
"He was not recruited for his title but for his expertise and his rich professional career," Le Monde reported.
Le Monde said Gonzalez-Hurtado would keep his job but gave no source.
Reuters reported on Friday that Braun and the male grooming unit's former head both denied -- as previously reported on Carrefour's website and Gonzalez-Hurtado's LinkedIn page -- that he had ever been president of Braun.
The unit's former head, Juan Pedro Hernandez, told Reuters that P&G had warned Carrefour about the discrepancy.
Carrefour told Le Monde that it had no recollection of having been alerted by P&G.
Carrefour was last month rocked by the surprise exit of its Executive Director for Europe, Vicente Trius, now at Loblaw. The French retailer is in the midst of a turnaround plan under new management and has struggled with waning investor confidence after two profit warnings last year.
