Chinese automotive company BYD Auto (SZ:002594) on Tuesday denied rumors that the company's solid-state batteries are about to be loaded into vehicles and that its sodium-ion batteries are entering the testing stage. BYD officials responded to the rumor, saying "the recent rumors about solid-state batteries and sodium-ion batteries, after confirmation with the company, are all false information."
According to a report on November 22, BYD plans to mass-produce sodium-ion batteries in the second quarter of 2023, to be installed in its Qin EV, Dolphin, and Seagull. At present, they are in the sample verification stage.
The first EV model adapting the solid-state battery will be the SUV from its high-end brand called Yangwang. BYD will also supply solid-state batteries to other enterprises, such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, and Hongqi which is owned by FAW.
