Boeing says still expects to raise 737 output after United fleet changes
BA

  • Boeing (BA -1.3%) says it sees no impact on its plans to increase production of 737 jetliners to 57 per month because of United Continental's move to delay delivery of 61 of the aircraft worth nearly $5B at list prices.
  • Boeing had planned to increase 737 production to 57 per month in 2019, up from 42 currently, with interim step-ups to 47 and 52 per month along the way.
  • UAL's decision nevertheless calls into question Boeing's plans to boost production of one of its biggest money makers over the next two years, and its ability to generate more cash for investors.
  • "737 output is their only realistic way to increase cash flow," says Teal Group aerospace analyst Richard Aboulafia, noting that Boeing already is cutting production of the 777, its other cash cow, and 787 output is due to remain steady.
