Investing.com – The number of U.S. workers filing new applications for unemployment benefits last week exceeded forecasts, U.S. Labor Department data showed on Thursday.
In a report, the department said the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 456,000 for the week ending April 17, down from 480,000 during the previous week, whose figure was revised down from 484,000.
Economists had expected the figure to drop to 450,000.
Following the release of the data, the U.S. dollar was up against the euro, with EUR/USD shedding 0.46% to reach 1.3329.
