MELBOURNE, Oct 20 (Reuters) - BHP Billiton voiced confidence on Wednesday that it could address tax-loss concerns raised by Canada's Saskatchewan province and win its support for the firm's $39 billion bid for Potash Corp. The Saskatchewan government is poised to give an unfavourable recommendation on the bid to the Canadian government, which has until Nov 3 to decide whether it will allow BHP Billiton to go ahead with its hostile bid.
"Nonetheless, BHP Billiton is confident it can address this concern and in this regard is prepared to make commitments which go beyond the requirements of prevailing Canadian legislation that should effectively address the tax-loss concerns of the province," BHP Billiton said in a statement.
