SYDNEY, April 5 (Reuters) - Australia's top competition regulator, Graeme Samuel, plans to step down when his current term expires on July 31, The Australian newspaper said on Tuesday, citing an internal email Samuel had sent to staff earlier in the day.
The newspaper reported on its Web site that Samuel, the chairman of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, had said in the email he planned to pursue "other interests".
The move ends speculation about whether Samuel would stay on for another term or not. A commission spokesman declined to confirm the report but said a staff communication had been issued.
