BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Striking prison warders burst into the Belgian Justice Ministry building on Tuesday during a demonstration before being forced out by baton-wielding riot police, Belgian media said.
Police officers scuffled with protesters inside the building and doused some with what appeared to be pepper spray, according to video on the website of broadcaster VTM.
The incident raised tensions in an already fraught three-week strike over pay and conditions that has seen the government send in troops to help run jails and face legal complaints from prisoners that they are being denied basic amenities.
