Investing.com - The number of building permits issues in the U.S. rose to the highest level since January 2008 in October, official data showed Tuesday.
In a report, the U.S. Commerce Department said that the number of building permits issued in October rose 6.2% to a seasonally adjusted 1.034 million from September’s total of 0.970 million.
Analysts expected building permits to decline to 0.940 million units in October.
The Commerce Department delayed the release of its monthly U.S. housing starts report for September and October until December 18, due to the recent government shutdown.
Following the release of the data, the U.S. dollar trimmed losses against the euro, with EUR/USD adding 0.18% to trade at 1.3541.
Meanwhile, U.S. stock future indices were modestly higher. The Dow Jones Industrial Average futures eased up 0.05%, S&P 500 futures pointed to a gain of 0.05%, while the Nasdaq 100 futures pointed to an increase of 0.05% at the open.
