Former President Donald Trump discussed the possibility of involving Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) CEO Elon Musk in his administration in a consultative capacity if he wins the upcoming election in November.
Trump acknowledged Musk's busy schedule with his various business ventures, which include leading Tesla and owning an artificial intelligence startup named xAI, might prevent him from taking a formal Cabinet position.
During the "Shawn Ryan Show," Trump praised Musk's intelligence and expressed his willingness to include him in his Cabinet but noted practical challenges due to Musk's commitments.
"I’d put him in the Cabinet, absolutely, but I don’t know how he could do that with all the things he’s got going," Trump said.
He went on to suggest that Musk could still offer valuable insights to the country, especially in the area of artificial intelligence.
Trump has previously mentioned considering Musk for a Cabinet role and has highlighted Musk's expertise in AI. Musk's engagement with AI extends to his efforts to integrate the technology at Tesla, showcasing his depth of knowledge in the field.
In addition to his business endeavors, Musk has shown support for Trump's political aspirations by endorsing him and contributing to a super PAC that backs Trump's presidential campaign.
Trump lauded Musk as "a very smart guy" and "a brilliant guy," reiterating his interest in Musk's participation in his administration.
Musk has also indicated a willingness to contribute to government efforts, specifically mentioning his interest in serving on a commission to address national debt and congressional spending.
In a recent conversation with Trump on the social media platform X, Musk stated, "I think it would be great to just have a government efficiency commission that looks at these things to make sure taxpayer money is spent in a good way. I’d be happy to help out on such a commission."
