Investing.com-- Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump maintained a slim lead over Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, a Fox News poll showed on Wednesday, with the two set for a tight race in the 2024 elections.
The poll showed Trump holding an approval of 50% to Harris’ 49%. The poll was conducted between August 9-12, and included responses from a sample of 1,105 registered voters, with a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
A Fox poll from last month showed Harris at 48%, behind Trump by one point, with the Republican candidate maintaining his lead in the latest poll. Harris was also seen polling similarly to Biden in the Fox poll, which contrasted with showings from other outlets that indicated an improvement in her rating after Biden’s exit from the race.
Still, the Fox poll, coupled with a slew of other recent polling data, heralded a tight 2024 presidential race. A recent Ipsos poll showed Harris keeping a slight lead over Trump after her official nomination last week, where she picked Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate.
The Fox poll was released just hours after Trump spoke at a rally in Asheville, North Carolina, where he touted some plans for economic reform, but swerved largely into mounting personal attacks against Harris and the Democrats.
Harris is set to speak in North Carolina later this week, as both candidates ramp up campaigning in key battleground states with less than three months left to the polls.
Economic policy- after nearly two years of high inflation- is set to be a key point of focus in the 2024 race, as are women's rights and immigration.
Wednesday's poll showed 38% of voters viewed the economy as their top priority. Voters also viewed Trump more favorably with regards to the economy, with a six point lead over Harris.
