Investing.com - Former. Gov. Mitt Romney (R-Mass.) met with President-elect Donald Trump, and the incoming White House chief of staff Reince Prebius, last night in New York City regarding his possible selection as the Secretary of State in the new Republican administration. The Trump transition team said today that there would be no new cabinet selection announcements this week. There were several earlier this week, including the Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, the Secretary of Health and Human Services Tom Price, and the secretaries of treasury, defense, and transportation. Picks for White House chief of staff and other senior staff were announced immediately after the election.

"I had a wonderful evening with President-elect Trump," Romney said in remarks to reporters last night. "We had another discussion about affairs throughout the world and these discussions I've had with him have been enlightening, and interesting, and engaging. I've enjoyed them very, very much."

Romney was the Republican nominee for President of the U.S. in 2012, but lost narrowly to Barack Obama, even though Obama's vote total was down significantly from his 2008 election campaign.

Romney was a founding partner of Bain & Co., a consultancy for Fortune 500 companies, and was CEO of the U.S. Olympic Committee when the games were held in Los Angeles in 2002. He was governor of Massachussets for four years, and ran twice for the GOP nomination for president, losing in 2008, and winning in 2012. His personal net worth is said to be $250 million. He has a law degree and an MBA from Harvard University and completed undergraduate training at BYU, after starting at Stanford University. Romney's father was governor of Michigan, and an advisor to U.S. President Nixon, meaning he is from one of the most prominent American political families.

According to remarks made during the 2012 presidential campaign, and more recently, Romney believes Russia is the leading geo-political threat to the interests of the U.S., while Trump believes radical Islamic terrorism is the most potent foreign policy problem. Trump and Romney traded barbs during the presidential primary season, and Romney considered jumping into the race for the Republican nomination as late as this past spring. Trump called Romney a "choke artist" for failing to win the presidential election in 2012, but the two leaders have since made peace.
