BRUSSELS, Oct 23 (Reuters) - European Union antitrust regulators opened an in-depth investigation into a German state aid package for regional lender HSH Nordbank on Friday, saying they suspected the plan might violate EU rules.
"The (European) Commission has doubts ... in particular as regards the eligibility and valuation of assets covered by the risk shield and remuneration of the Laender (region) for the risk shield provided," the EU executive said in a statement. The Commission said it needed to verify whether the measures could restore the bank's long-term viability. (Reporting by Bate Felix and Foo Yun Chee; Editing by Dale Hudson)
