Former President Donald Trump was unharmed after a second assassination attempt outside his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday.

A gunman was hiding in some bushes near the golf course's property line. Secret Service agents, who were clearing the course ahead of Trump's arrival, spotted the barrel of a rifle in the bushes.

The agents engaged the gunman, firing at least four shots around 1:30 p.m. The gunman then dropped his rifle along with two backpacks and other belongings before fleeing the scene in a black Nissan (OTC:NSANY). According to the sheriff, a witness managed to capture photos of the car and its license plate.

Authorities quickly issued an alert with the vehicle information, leading deputies in neighboring Martin County to apprehend the suspect on I-95.

“We have someone in custody,” Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw confirmed.

Trump’s campaign earlier reassured the public that he was safe despite the nearby gunfire. Trump later sent an email to his supporters, saying, "There were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumors start spreading, I wanted you to hear it from me: I AM SAFE AND WELL!"

This incident comes after a previous assassination attempt in Pennsylvania on July 13, which raised concerns about the security measures in place for presidential candidates ahead of the highly anticipated Nov. 5 election, where Trump is set to face off against Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris.

In response, the White House released a statement confirming that both President Joe Biden and Vice President Harris had been briefed and were relieved that Trump was unharmed. Harris also addressed the incident on social media, stating, "Violence has no place in America."
