The euro rose for a second straight day against the dollar on Tuesday, but stalled at 1.3957, erasing some of the losses from last week's sharp decline.
During midday European trading, EUR/USD retreated to hover around 1.3944. The pair is likely to find resistance at 1.4194, last Monday's high, and support around 1.3886, the daily low.
EUR/JPY also rose on Tuesday, as the pair gained 0.15% to hit 126.44, recovering from the 9-month low the pair hit on Monday.
The single European currency edged higher against both currencies as the Greek Prime Minister, George Papandreou, told a conference that the level of Greek bond spreads over euro zone benchmarks was completely unjustified, keeping up the rhetoric against speculators he blames for targeting his country.
Worries over Greece's fiscal health have hurt the euro in recent weeks.
