WASHINGTON, March 11 (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama will discuss the confrontation between five Chinese ships and a U.S. Navy survey vessel when he meets China's foreign minister on Thursday, the White House said on Wednesday.
"The incident involving the boats of the two countries will be on the list for discussion. I don't think it will overshadow it, but I think the president will continue to make clear our country's position," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs told a daily briefing.
He said Obama and Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi would also discuss the global economic crisis, including the sensitive subject of the value of the Chinese yuan currency against the dollar.
"The president looks forward to discussing issues of mutual concern with the Chinese foreign minister, including our global economic crisis," Gibbs said.
Pressed on whether that would include currencies, Gibbs replied: "I would probably put that under the global economic crisis and a number of other issues that will be on the agenda that the president looks forward to talking to the foreign minister about."
