* Wider trading band to take effect from Feb. 5
* Strong commodity prices support the tenge
(Adds background)
ALMATY, Jan 15 (Reuters) - Kazakhstan's tenge currency
Kazakhstan's central bank will from Feb. 5 widen the tenge/dollar trading band to 127.5-165 tenge per dollar from the current 145-155 and has said it expects the tenge to strengthen on high oil and metals prices.
Kazakhstan introduced the current trading band after devaluing the tenge last February as commodity prices plunged in the wake of the global economic downturn.
As commodity prices recovered, the tenge started appreciating but the central bank has curbed swift moves, buying dollars on the market and warning speculators against betting on rapid appreciation. (Writing by Olzhas Auyezov)
