KIEV, Sept 15 (Reuters) - Ukraine has repaid a 768 million Swiss franc bond, the finance ministry said on Tuesday.
Ukraine said late in July bondholders had exercised a put option on the bond, due in 2018, and demanded early repayment.
"The finance ministry finished paying the ... external debt .... The total stood at 781.44 million Swiss francs," the ministry said in a statement.
The repayment eases the debt burden of the government somewhat -- its next sovereign debt repayment is due at the end of next year when it must redeem a 4-year 35.1 billion yen Eurobond.
But two quasi-sovereign bonds are to mature by the end of the year. State energy firm Naftogaz is trying to restructure its $500 million Eurobond, maturing at the end of the month [ID:nLE23588], and state bank Ukreximbank has a $250 million Eurobond maturing later this year.
