WASHINGTON, May 3 (Reuters) - The White House will convene later this month the first meeting of a high-profile economic advisory panel led by former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker.
A U.S. official said on Sunday that President's Economic Recovery Advisory Board would meet on May 20 at a forum that will include members of the public.
Volcker, a key adviser to Obama during the campaign, and other members of the board will advise the president on a range of economic issues, including an effort to simplify the multi-layered U.S. tax code.
The 16-member panel includes some former officials such as former Clinton administration economist Laura Tyson and William Donaldson, who was Securities and Exchange Commission chairman under President George W. Bush.
It also includes some private economists and business and labor representatives. (Reporting by Caren Bohan; editing by Mohammad Zargham)
