SEOUL, Sept 3 (Reuters) - South Korea's economy expanded by a seasonally adjusted 2.6 percent in the second quarter from the previous quarter, the fastest rate in 5-½ years, revised figures from the central bank showed on Thursday.
That compared with a previous estimate of a 2.3 percent rise in gross domestic product for the April-June period reported on July 24 and follows a revised 0.1 percent gain in the first quarter and a 5.1 percent contraction in the fourth quarter of 2008.
The Bank of Korea's revised data showed Asia's fourth-largest economy shrank by 2.2 percent in the second quarter from a year earlier, compared with the previous estimate of a 2.5 percent fall.
The latest data is still considered provisional. (Reporting by Seo Eun-kyung; Editing by Jonathan Hopfner)
