WASHINGTON, Dec 16 (Reuters) - U.S. President-elect Barack Obama plans to appoint former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack to be his agriculture secretary, CNN reported on Tuesday.
CNN quoted sources as saying Vilsack would likely be formally named on Wednesday, when Obama is expected to announce the appointment of Colorado Sen. Ken Salazar as secretary of the interior.
Vilsack, a former two-term governor of Iowa, was the first Democrat to formally announce he was running for president but withdrew in February 2007 and later endorsed Hillary Clinton, becoming national co-chair of her campaign. (Editing by Jackie Frank)
