WASHINGTON, April 14 (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama said on Tuesday that efforts to restart the economy were beginning to take hold, although there was more work to be done to restore growth.
In excerpts from a speech he will deliver later on Tuesday, Obama said steps taken to recapitalize banks, strengthen the housing market and rescue the auto sector were "necessary pieces of the recovery puzzle."
"They have been designed to increase aggregate demand, get credit flowing again to families and businesses, and help them ride out the storm. And taken together, these actions are starting to generate signs of economic progress," he said. (Reporting by Emily Kaiser; Editing by James Dalgleish)
