WASHINGTON, March 27 (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama and bankers discussed executive compensation during a meeting on Friday, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said.
That issue has created a public uproar after firms that accepted taxpayer bailout money gave executives large bonuses.
"Also discussed were issues of compensation and the importance of recognizing what the American public is going through in this economic crisis," Gibbs said.
He said he believed the timing of banks returning the bailout money was also discussed at the meeting. (Reporting by Tabassum Zakaria; Editing by John O'Callaghan)
