RIGA, Nov 19 (Reuters) - Latvia's central bank last week spent 267.6 million euros ($337.8 million) to support the lat currency, the bank said on Wednesday.
The intervention last week was a sharp rise from the 23 million euros spent the week before.
The bank has been forced to support the lat as it has hit the weak end of its 1 percent fluctuation band against the euro. The lat is pegged at a central rate of 0.7028 euros, with a weak end of 0.7098 euros.
The bank has now spent 680.7 million euros from its foreign reserves in seven weeks of interventions in order to support the lat, out of total reserves that stood at more than 4 billion euros at the end of October. ($1=.7921 Euro) (Reporting by Patrick Lannin; Editing by Clarence Fernandez)
