TOKYO, Jan 28 (Reuters) - Japanese Finance Minister Shoichi Nakagawa and U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner agreed the two nations needed to work closely to overcome troubles in the global economy, a senior Japanese finance official said on Wednesday.
Nakagawa and Geithner did not touch on currency rate issues in their bilateral talks by telephone on Wednesday, the official told a news conference.
Geithner, previously president of the New York Federal Reserve Bank, was sworn in as U.S. Treasury secretary on Monday. (Reporting by Leika Kihara)
