TOKYO, March 31 (Reuters) - Japanese authorities conducted a total of 692.5 billion yen ($8.38 billion) in foreign exchange intervention in the month to March 29, the Ministry of Finance said on Thursday.
Although the government data does not say which currency it bought and sold, market players said the Bank of Japan bought the dollar against the yen on March 18 to stem the Japanese currency's gains when Japan and its Group of Seven (G7) partners conducted their first joint intervention in more than a decade.
The dollar/yen traded at 82.88 yen on Thursday. (Reporting by Hideyuki Sano; Editing by Joseph Radford)
