TOKYO, Dec 2 (Reuters) - Japanese Finance Minister Shoichi Nakagawa said on Tuesday he would welcome any steps the Bank of Japan takes to help corporate funding, as the central bank meets later in the day to consider such measures.
He also said it would be beneficial for Japan if the government and the BOJ worked as one on monetary policy.
"I acknowledge the BOJ's independence from the government," Nakagawa told a news conference after a cabinet meeting. "But it is a plus for Japan if the BOJ and the government work together on fiscal and monetary policy."
The BOJ will hold an emergency policy meeting from 1 p.m. (0400 GMT) to discuss measures to help ease a squeeze in credit markets as firms face a tough time securing financing to tide them over the end of the year. (Reporting by Tetsushi Kajimoto)
