TEHRAN, Sept 7 (Reuters) - Iran has raised its production of gasoline to attain self-sufficiency in the strategic product, the state television website reported its oil minister as saying on Tuesday.
"We attained a production of 66.5 million litres day in the country's refineries," said Massoud Mirkazemi, according to IRIB's website. Prior to the increase, he said: "We had a domestic production of 44 million litres and imported 20 million litres to meet the market's needs."
Iran recently said it aimed to be self-sufficient in gasoline by 2012. (Reporting by Hashem Kalantari; Writing by Robin Pomeroy, editing by Anthony Barker)
