GENEVA, Oct 1 (Reuters) - Talks on Iran's nuclear programme between Iran and six world powers began on Thursday outside Geneva, Cristina Gallach, spokeswoman for EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana, told reporters.
The six countries -- the United States, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany -- hope Iran will engage in constructive talks on how to end a long-running standoff over Tehran's nuclear programme, which the West fears is for making weapons.
The talks are being hosted by Switzerland at a government villa near Geneva. (Reporting by Lou Charbonneau; Editing by Jonathan Lynn)
