REYKJAVIK, July 16 (Reuters) - Iceland's finance minister said on Thursday a parliamentary vote on starting accession talks with the EU would be close and that there is a good chance Icelanders would anyway say no to membership in a popular vote.
"I think it is probably going to be quite narrow, but I expect the proposal to go through," Finance Minister Steingrimur Sigfusson told Reuters in an interview.
Parliament is due to vote on the issue at 1200 GMT.
When asked whether there was a possibility the people would say no to membership in an eventual referendum, Sigfusson, who is also chair of the EU-sceptic Left-Green party, said: "Oh yes, there is a big possibility that an agreement will be voted down. There are so many vital interests that are at stake."
