March 7 (Reuters) - Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held a news conference on the sidelines of the annual meeting of China's parliament in Beijing on Saturday, talking on subjects ranging from Sudan, Japan and the Dalai Lama to the G20 and North Korea. Here are some of the highlights:

G20 SUMMIT

"The pressing task now is that all countries must work together to make the upcoming financial summit in London a success."

"We believe the summit should play a role in boosting confidence, strengthening coordination on macroeconomic policies, stabilising financial markets, (and) undertaking necessary reforms in the global financial system and regulatory regime."

"In this regard we are ready to work with the United States and other countries to weather the storm and make joint efforts to overcome the difficulties brought by the financial crisis."

RELATIONS WITH THE UNITED STATES

"I think that since the new Obama administration took office, relations between the Chinese and U.S. governments have been off to a good start."

"We're willing to work with the United States and other countries to cross the river in the same boat through the stormy waters."

"In the current international environment, China and the U.S. share broad common interests and enhance exchanges and cooperation. We hope that each side can take care of the other's core interests and enhance exchanges and cooperation."

SIX-PARTY TALKS ON NORTH KOREAN NUCLEAR CRISIS

"We've encountered some difficulties at present and these emerged in the course of negotiations over this complex issue. We should see that this is normal. The important thing is that all parties should act according to the agreement made on Sept. 19, 2005, and join hands to fulfil the second phase action plan at an early date, and advance the talks to the third phase."

"We have noted that the North Korean side has announced it will launch a trial communications satellite, and we have also noted the reaction of various countries. We express our concern about the developments ... We hope that all parties will do more things that are helpful."

SUDAN AND DARFUR

"On the issue of Darfur, our position has always been to promote dialogue and peace talks. We hope to see continued progress on both the deployment of peacekeeping forces and political dialogue."

CHRISTIE'S AUCTION OF LOOTED CHINESE BRONZES

"China has the right to pursue the return of these relics. It is very immoral to add insult to injury (by auctioning them)."

TIBET AND THE DALAI LAMA

"In developing relations with China, other countries should not allow the Dalai Lama to visit their countries and should not allow their territories to be used for the Dalai Lama to engage in separatist activities for Tibet's independence."

"The Dalai Lama's side still insists on establishing a so-called Greater Tibet on a quarter of Chinese territory. They want to drive away Chinese armed forces on Chinese territory and ask all non-Tibetans to relocate themselves, people who have long spent their lives on that part of Chinese territory. You call this person a religious figure? Would Germany, France or other countries accept that a quarter of their territory be separated?"
