NEW YORK, Aug 3 (Reuters) - U.S. stocks extended gains on Monday after data showed the manufacturing sector shrank at a slower pace in July than the previous month.
* Separately, data also showed construction spending in June came in above expectations.
* The Dow Jones industrial average gained 73.84 points, or 0.81 percent, to 9,245.45. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index rose 9.93 points, or 1.01 percent, to 997.41. The Nasdaq Composite Index climbed 19.74 points, or 1.00 percent, to 1,998.24.
