Investing.com – Belgium stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Technology, Basic Materials and Chemicals sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Brussels, the BEL 20 declined 2.91%.
The best performers of the session on the BEL 20 were Elia (BRU:ELI), which rose 0.40% or 0.170 points to trade at 42.560 at the close. Meanwhile, Biocartis Group NV (BRU:BCART) fell 0.57% or 0.075 points to end at 13.180 and Telenet Group (BRU:TNET) was down 0.59% or 0.31 points to 52.60 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were DIeteren SA (BRU:IETB), which fell 5.70% or 2.085 points to trade at 34.500 at the close. Umicore NV (BRU:UMI) declined 5.04% or 1.85 points to end at 34.92 and Delhaize Group (BRU:DELB) was down 4.31% or 3.48 points to 77.22.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Brussels Stock Exchange by 127 to 32 and 5 ended unchanged.
Shares in Elia (BRU:ELI) rose to all time highs; gaining 0.40% or 0.170 to 42.560.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.70% or 7.90 to $1124.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 3.22% or 1.51 to hit $45.45 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.83% or 0.90 to trade at $48.02 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.60% to 1.1123, while EUR/GBP rose 0.29% to 0.7235.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.47% at 96.48.
