BRUSSELS, Oct 5 (Reuters) - The European Union has settled its dispute with Uruguay over the country's taxation on alcohol, the EU's executive body said on Monday.
The European Commission said it had closed its investigation into Uruguay's taxation regime on spirits after it had removed what Europe considered to be unfair barriers to the sale of spirits in the country.
"I am delighted that we have solved this issue without having to resort to World Trade Organisation litigation," EU Trade Commissioner Catherine Ashton said in a statement. (Reporting by Marcin Grajewski; Editing by Dale Hudson)
