Investing.com - Australian employment change declined unexpectedly in February, official data showed on Thursday.
In a report, Australian Bureau of Statistics said that Australian employment change fell by a seasonally adjusted 15,400 in February, defying expectations for a gain of 5,000.
January’s figure was revised to a gain of 46,200 from a previously reported increase of 46,300.
The report also showed that Australia’s unemployment rate ticked up in line with expectations to 5.2% from 5.1% in January.
Following the release of the data, the Australian dollar was higher against its U.S. counterpart, with AUD/USD gaining 0.33% to trade at 1.0619.
