(Corrects headline and first paragraph to show surplus not deficit)
BEIJING, Feb 4 (Reuters) - China said on Thursday that the value of its yuan currency is not the main reason for the country's trade surplus with the United States.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu said at a regular news briefing that the yuan was at a reasonable level, and that China did not deliberately pursue a trade surplus with the United States.
U.S. President Barack Obama on Wednesday vowed to "get much tougher" with China on trade and currency rules to ensure U.S. goods do not face a competitive disadvantage, adding to the issues weighing on relations. (Reporting by Lucy Hornby; Writing by Ben Blanchard; Editing by Ken Wills
