LONDON, Jan 28 (Reuters) - The United States has enough evidence to know that China does not manipulate its exchange rate and it would be unfair for Washington to change its view suddenly, a Chinese diplomat said on Wednesday.
"I don't think it's fair all of a sudden to change the position of the U.S. government," the diplomat said.
"They have enough evidence to show that China did not and does not manipulate the renminbi exchange rate."
Newly appointed U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner branded China a currency manipulator last week, but the White House said on Monday that a formal position would only be stated in the coming months. (Reporting by Daisy Ku and Adrian Croft, writing by David Milliken and Sumeet Desai)
