BEIJING, Sept 15 (Reuters) - A U.S. decision to impose added duty on Chinese-made tyres is an abuse of World Trade Organisation (WTO) safeguard measures, the Chinese commerce ministry said on Tuesday.
The duties send the wrong message to the world, ministry spokesman Yao Jian told a news conference.
The tyre duty was the first time Washington has applied special "safeguard" provisions Beijing agreed to before joining the World Trade Organisation in 2001. (Reporting by Langi Chiang and Jason Subler; editing by Ken Wills)
