BEIJING, Sept 23 (Reuters) - Chinese premier Wen Jiabao said the yuan exchange rate was not to blame for the trade imbalance between China and the United States, in remarks in New York carried by state media.
The imbalance is instead a result of the investment and trade structure, he told a group of businessmen during a trip to New York for a United Nations summit on poverty and the annual General Assembly meetings.
"The main reason for the U.S. trade deficit with China is not the renminbi exchange rate, but the structure of trade and investment between the two countries," the People's Daily website reported Wen as saying. (Reporting by Chris Buckley; Writing by Lucy Hornby; Editing by Alex Richardson)
