Reuters is running a multimedia package this week to mark the 30th anniversary of China's reforms and opening up. The Chinese Communist Party, backed by rehabilitated veteran leader Deng Xiaoping, launched the reforms at a famed meeting that opened on Dec. 18, 1978.
The package charts China's political, economic and diplomatic rise from an isolated, impoverished country into the world's fourth-largest economy.
It includes stories on how China's leaders are embracing events of 30 years ago to reaffirm reformist policies in the midst of an economic downturn, a feature exploring a younger generation that has largely taken the fruits of China's economic boom for granted and the story of a village surrounded by dozens of polluting factories that has paid the ultimate price for China's growth.
Text stories have been slugged CHINA-REFORMS and most have been identified with CHINA NOW in the headline.
