NEW YORK, Sept 15 (Reuters) - U.S. stocks closed at 2009 highs on Tuesday after stronger manufacturing and retail sales data boosted commodity prices and shares of materials companies.
According to the latest available figures, the Dow Jones industrial average closed up 54.72 points, or 0.57 percent, at 9,681.52. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index gained 3.30 points, or 0.31 percent, to 1,052.64. The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 10.22 points, or 0.49 percent, to 2,102.00.
