NEW YORK, July 8 (Reuters) - U.S. stocks fell on Wednesday, with the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq down more than 1 percent, on lingering concerns over an economic recovery and anxiety about corporate profits as the second-quarter earnings season prepared to kick off.
The Dow Jones industrial average dropped 55.85 points, or 0.68 percent, to 8,107.75. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index lost 9.95 points, or 1.13 percent, to 871.08. The Nasdaq Composite Index fell 17.49 points, or 1.00 percent, to 1,728.68. (Reporting by Rodrigo Campos; Editing by Leslie Adler)
