NEW YORK, Aug 11 (Reuters) - U.S. stocks extended losses on Tuesday after data showed inventories at wholesalers dropped in June, with downgrades on banks also prompting investors to sell shares in the financial sector.
* The Dow Jones industrial average fell 85.17 points, or 0.91 percent, to 9,252.78. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index lost 9.49 points, or 0.94 percent, to 997.61. The Nasdaq Composite Index gave up 21.08 points, or 1.06 percent, at 1,971.16.
